Some motorcycles use a five-wire wiring system for tail, brake, and turn signal lights. In a five-wire system, the brake and turn signal lights get signal from individual power wires devoted to each function. Some trailers us a four-wire system. In a four-wire system the brake and turn signal lights share a single wire to power these functions.
